Long acting antibiotic for use in cattle. Excede is also the first and only sustained-release antibiotic for use in horses. For use in lactating and non-lactating dairy cattle, beef cattle and calves for treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and for high risk cattle in the control of BRD associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni (Haemophilus somnus). Also for the treatment of foot rot associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Porphyromonas levii in beef and dairy cattle. Indicated for the treatment of acute metritis (0 to 10 days post-partum) associated with organisms susceptible to ceftiofur in lactating dairy cattle. For horses for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus equi ssp. zooepidemicus, the most common pathogen isolated from equine respiratory infections.

Beef and lactating and non-lactating dairy cattle and calves: Administer 1.5 ml per 100 lbs body weight either subcutaneously in the middle third of the posterior aspect of the ear, or subcutaneously in the posterior aspect of the base of the ear where the ear attaches to the head aiming the needle towards the eye on the opposite side of the head. For acute metritis treatment repeat dose approximately 72 hours following first dose. Slaughter withhold is 13 days following last treatment; no milk withdrawal. Do not inject subcutaneously or intramuscularly in any other part of the animal.

For horses:  Administer 1.5 ml per 100 lbs body weight intramuscularly. Administer a second dose 4 days later. Do not inject more than 20 ml in one injection site.
